An electrode is normally found in the burner head assembly.

Types of Electrode

It may be a self-contained spark electrode that looks very similar to a ‘spark plug’ commonly seen in engines. Custom-length electrodes are used on different manufacturers’ burners as the spark gap may need to be altered and the electrode length adjusted to suit the burner.

What Does A Burner Electrode Do?

A burner electrode is used to ignite combustible gasses. It is connected to a transformer and at the correct timing during the startup process, creates a strong spark in the air-fuel mixture, to ignite the flame.

When Should I Replace The Burner Electrode?

If you begin to experience startup issues with your burner, or if you notice any pitting or surface rust on the electrode, it might be a good time to replace the electrode. These are serviceable items, depending on the burner operating cycles and the startup frequency, we recommend they are changed every 12 months during the burner's annual service.
